Antiques lover, former wife of Senator Bob Dole dies

Phyllis Holden Macey, 83, an artist, physical therapy consultant and former Fairfax County resident, died of renal failure April 22.

Macey came to Washington from Kansas in 1960 with her first husband, former Republican senator and presidential candidate Bob Dole, as he began serving in the U.S. House of Representatives. She put her career on hold as Dole began his political career.

After the divorce, she opened an antiques shop in Sylvan Grove, Kan., and continued her interest in art, antiques and folk art throughout her life.
