Do you have a family heirloom with a story to tell? In collaboration with Antiques Roadshow, The WGBH Lab is hosting an Open Call for video shorts that showcase a particular object or antique with personal relevance to the filmmaker. The WGBH Lab, an online tool for media makers to share their work, challenges emerging talent to consider their own compelling perspectives and craft unique videos that share their vision with the world.
Whether a cherished family heirloom or a forgotten trinket collecting dust in the attic, the selected item must have significance for the creator. There is unlimited artistic freedom, as interested media makers may choose to showcase emotional ties to the object or explain a unique history through their video.
Entries must be no longer than two minutes and can be in an original home movie or creative short film format. Submissions are encouraged through June 1 on The WGBH Lab (wgbh.org/lab), which will post entries and invite the public to vote for their favorites.
Three video submissions will be rewarded with a pair of VIP tickets to attend a live taping of an Antiques Roadshow appraisal event this summer. Final shorts also will be featured online and have the opportunity to be broadcast on WGBH and other PBS stations nationwide. Eligibility, Guidelines, and Official Rules can be found at wgbh.org/lab.
Participants can make their short films using The WGBH Lab Sandbox. An open content library, the Sandbox allows media makers to mash-up or remix video clips to create a documentary or other creative piece. Clips are shared under a creative commons license and are accessed at lab.wgbh.org/sandbox.
Part adventure, part history lesson, and part treasure hunt, WGBH?s Antiques Roadshow (pbs.org/roadshow) is PBS?s highest-rated series. Nearly 10 million viewers tune in each week as leading auction house experts and independent dealers offer free appraisals of family heirlooms, forgotten trinkets and collectibles.
