SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The National Milk Glass Collectors Society (NMGCS) members will convene in Springfield, Ill., at the Crown Plaza Springfield Hotel, Sept. 10-11 for the society’s annual convention, to exchange information about their common hobby as well as buy and sell items.
The NMGCS is a nonprofit, educational organization dedicated to the study and preservation of this unique segment of the glass world. Members of the society receive an informative quarterly publication, “The Opaque News.”
The convention is hosting four featured speakers on the subjects of milk glass novelties; milk glass dresser pieces: bottles, boxes and trays; Hentiquities: A View From The Hen House; and opaque glass toothpick holders.
The first day of the conference features a welcome session and a special Show and Tell period, during which new members will be introduced.
An auction of approximately 250 rare milk glass pieces will be held; however, all bidders must be club members to participate in either the auction or the convention. Annual club memberships are available for $18, with family memberships available for $28 and associate memberships available for $10. Membership applications will be available at the convention’s registration desk, and they may be found on the society’s Web site at www.nmgcs.org.
On Sept. 11, the Dealer’s Room is open for members to purchase many glass pieces they can’t find elsewhere. Also available will be a member’s “tops and bottoms” sale area. Beginning at 7 p.m. a banquet will feature six milk glass member gurus who will give a “show and tell” presentation about some of their favorite details about milk glass and its various designs and styles. Visit the milk glass collecting club website (www.nmgcs.org) for more photos and information. ?
