LANCASTER, Pa. – The fall national meeting of the Pewter Collectors’ Club of America will be held Oct. 12-13 at the Lancaster Host Resort & Conference Center.
Events include a tour of the Heritage Center Museum of Lancaster County. The museum’s collections include an overview of 300 years of furniture, firearms, pewter, frakturs, textiles and toys made in south-central Pennsylvania.
Collector Don Herr will also present an illustrated lecture, “Johann Christoph Heyne: The Man and His Pewter.” Heyne (1715-1781) was a Moravian minister who emigrated from his native Germany to Pennsylvania in the 1750s. Most of his surviving work as a pewterer consists of objects used to celebrate the Eucharist in Lutheran and Moravian churches in German-speaking communities around Lancaster. Heyne had trained as a pewterer in Sweden, where he absorbed the Baroque style.
