NEW YORK, N.Y.– A monumental Reed and Barton Francis I Coffee and Tea Service, weighing
more than 25 pounds, and a rare, carved Chinese Rhinoceros horn bowl,
measuring 3-inches by 5-inches, could headline a major sale closing Nov.
16 at Nye & Co.
The sale has some 720 lots including works by John James Audubon, Joseph Bail, a group of European Painters, diverse English, American and Continental furniture, numerous tribal rugs, Van Cleef and Arpels, Cartier and lots of costume jewelry.
There are nearly 150 lots from “Brushwood”, the old Ballantine Mansion in Bernardsville, N.J. included in this auction. Accenting the offering are period furniture and high style reproductions like the Baker Furniture Chinoiserie-Decorated Chinese Chippendale Breakfront Cabinet. Other pieces include numerous botanical prints, paintings and accessories.
From a Southern collector comes a group of four prints by John James Audubon. All came from noted dealer Graham Arader and have been part of a fine Virginia collection until now. The star in this small lot is the image of the Great Horned Owl.
