OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Heart of America Chapter, #36, of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors, will host the Annual Clock and Watch Collectors Convention at the Overland Park Convention Center, from June 8-12, 2011. This annual convention will see possibly 2,000 members participating in educational programs, displays, clock and watch crafts, auctions and buying and selling horological items.
The NAWCC will have “Field Suitcase Workshops” from June 6-9 at the Overland Park Convention Center before and as part of the Convention’s first two days. These workshops require a special fee and will focus on clock and watch repair. See the NAWCC website for costs and other details of the workshops.
There will be approximately 900 tables of clock and watch sellers available to members. A special “Introductory Membership” to the National Association ($20) will allow first-time members to register for a trial membership, which is a four month membership in the National Association will also allow the introductory member to receive two issues of “The Watch and Clock Bulletin” and Mart. Regular membership registration is available at the convention ($60), which includes all convention activities including the Mart and auction.
The annual convention always features a special watch or clock exhibit, and this year’s exhibit will feature British horological items. The British were early sponsors of precision timepieces to assist in their worldwide maritime activities. Tom Spittler, an internationally recognized authority on British horological items will present a program, “British Long Case Clocks” at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening. Other programs are on Elgin Wristwatches, appraising clocks and watches, the World’s best precision clock and clocks in art.
