Midwestern auction company Sullivan Auctioneers hosts many auctions each month, but the event slated to take place June 11 is special, for a few reasons.
More than a Famous Actor
Among the objects featured in the estate auction are film, television, and theater awards and memorabilia. The items honor the achievements of the late award-winning actor John Mahoney (June 22, 1940 – Feb. 18, 2018) who was best known for his portrayal of Martin Crane on the hit television show “Fraiser.”
That is undoubtedly part of what makes the John Mahoney Estate Auction exciting, but it’s not the only thing. Because, you see, to the owners of Sullivan Auctioneers Mr. Mahoney was simply ‘Uncle John.’
Born Charles John Mahoney, he was the brother of Rita Sullivan, the matriarch of the family behind Sullivan Auctioneers. How’s that for special? Well, cast your eyes on seven stand-out lots featured in this auction and enjoy more examples of special.
Objects of Appreciation
Out of the gate, this auction will captivate bidder attention with a scarce orange and green blown-glass vase by iconic artist Dale Chihuly. The vessel, which includes Chihuly’s signature, was presented to Mr. Mahoney by the artist during the 100th episode of the show “Frasier.”
Another lot piquing bidder interest is a 106-page script from the May 18, Season 7 episode of “Frasier,” signed to Mahoney and autographed by Christopher Lloyd and Joe Keenan.
Additional memorabilia includes photographs, including this cast photo from “Fraiser.” The show was on the air for 11 seasons.
This lot contains not one, but two scripts from the Emmy Award-winning television show “Frasier,” featuring among the cast of the late John Mahoney. The scripts in this single lot include the March 22 and May 13, 2004 scripts.
Among the lots of furniture featured in this no-reserve estate auction is a mission-style cabinet featuring a glass door and three small leaded glass sections at the top. The cabinet measures 58″ tall x 28.5″ wide x 13″ deep.
Films, Television and Theater
Another item of memorabilia celebrating the late Mr. Mahoney’s transformative acting abilities is this theater poster promoting the performance of “The Drawer Boy” at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, New Jersey. In addition, Mr. Mahoney was nominated and won Tony Awards for his work on the stage.
A unique item of furniture from Mr. Mahoney’s estate and up for bid June 11 is this handcrafted four-drawer hors d’oeuvre table with folding flip-top.
