There is a late Victorian mourning brooch. The tiny pin features a fine, hand-painted scene on ivory of a grave with a tombstone amid willow trees; the stone bears the initials “M.M.B.” and the date “1897.” The paints are made from pigment mixed with pulverized hair. Because of the tiny size and single date it is not unreasonable to assume M.M.B. was a child.
