A new year and it’s time for the Oregon, Ill., 59th annual Antique Show. When the Oregon, Ill., Woman’s Club hosted its first show in 1951, it consisted of a few area dealers and the display of collections from local individuals. It has grown from the early years as an antique and hobby show into one of Northern Illinois’ oldest and best annual antique shows.
The Woman’s Club, a non-profit organization, sponsors the show and uses the proceeds to help fund various community projects and charities. The club sponsors two scholarships, donates funds and food to the local food pantry, helps the VFW with holiday food baskets and sends a student to leadership camp each summer. These are just several of the 20 projects and charities the club helps fund.
This year the show will again be held at the Blackhawk Center Sports Arena, located on the Oregon public school campus. The facility offers ample parking, handicap accessibility and a huge area for 50 Midwest antique dealers to display their merchandise.
Quality antiques will range from the early 1800s up through the retro era of the 1950s including all areas of collecting: furniture, glass, china, pottery, toys, textiles, jewelry, dolls, silver, decorator items and more.
The snack bar, sponsored by the Oregon, Ill., Kiwanis Club, will be brimming with “home-made” sandwiches, soups, desserts and beverages. Mary Lou’s Crystal Repair from Joliet, Ill., will be on hand to repair your damaged heirlooms “while you wait.”
On Sunday, Munda & Associates, Auctioneers & Appraisers, Freeport, Ill., will offer verbal appraisals of small items for $5 per item. Please supply photos of large items. If a written appraisal is needed, discuss details with Munda & Associates.
Show times are Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission donation is $5 per person, which is good for both days of the show. If you run out of time on Saturday or just can not decide on that special treasure, come back on Sunday with our compliments.
Location is the Blackhawk Center, 10th St. at Jefferson St., one block south of Rt. 64 (Washington St.), Oregon, Ill. Mark your calendar for March 28-29, and make plans to come enjoy the day or weekend.
