Antiques forum to study natural beauty in decorative arts

NEW ORLEANS — The eighth annual New Orleans Antiques Forum is taking place Thursday, July 2015-NOAF-logo30 through Sunday, Aug. 2, in the French Quarter. One of the premier decorative arts events in the country, the four-day program includes lively talks and discussions with local and national experts and optional activities. Registration for the event is now open.

This year’s forum, “It’s Only Natural,” will shine a light on the boundless influence of nature in the decorative arts. From the acanthus-leaf ornamentation of neoclassical architecture to the gilded flora decorating fine-art frames. For the first time, this year’s forum is being presented in conjunction with an exhibition of same name, on view July 29–November 28 at the Williams Research Center, 410 Chartres St., New Orleans.

Participants are also invited to register for the optional preconference day trip, Thursday, July 30, to three landmarks in Franklin and Jeanerette, Louisiana, with Eugene D. Cizek and William M. Hyland as guides.

Residence and St. Anthony’s Garden (adjacent to St. Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square), as well as a Sunday jazz brunch at New Orleans’s iconic Antoine’s Restaurant, now celebrating its 175th anniversary. Separate registration is required for the optional activities.

Tom Savage, director of museum affairs at Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library in Delaware, is returning as the forum’s moderator.
