Farmington, Conn., show changing locations, name

What was once the Farmington Antiques Weekend will now be the Harwinton Antiques & Design Weekend after owners Jenkins Management announced a new home for their long running Connecticut antiques show. The dates will remain the second full weekend in June and Labor Day weekend (June 11-12 & Sept. 3 & 4, 2011).

Located the same distance off Route 4, the new location will provide an  upgrade in facilities for the show, dealers and customers. The Harwinton Fairgrounds includes more than 100 indoor spaces with electricity and fixed lighting: large areas for outdoor antiques vendors and good food service from permanent facilities. The location is seen as an improvement to the Farmington Polo Grounds, an exposed area that often subjected dealers to hard weather and high winds.

“We fully expect our new home to capture the essence and spirit of the Polo Grounds, but with a significant upgrade in creature comforts for attendees and vendors” according to Jon Jenkins.

Nick Terlecky, president of Harwinton Agricultural Society, owners of the fairgrounds said the group is excited to have the twice a year antiques show for their community and fairgrounds. “We maintain the property for just this kind of event but this usage will be a big plus for the organization,” Terlecky said.

The decision to move to the new facility was “not made in haste” according to Steve Jenkins.
“But the ability to offer a better facility, with more amenities for
dealers and customers at a lower price point was simply too much to pass
up. The facility change will dramatically increase our ability to
utilize resources for advertising and marketing. The costs of our old
home along with the dependence on expensive rental tents and high cost
temporary services were financially suffocating both the dealers and the
show. Every effort will be made to insure that our customers will find
our new home.”

The Harwinton Fairgrounds is also three miles from Rt. 8, a direct connection from I-84 and I-95 for customers traveling up from Fairfield County, Westchester County and the rest of the New York Metro area reducing travel time by over 40 minutes from New York City.
