CHICAGO – Artropolis, a city-wide celebration of culture and the arts, returns to Chicago, April 25-28, with five art exhibitions hosted at The Merchandise Mart. Featuring Art Chicago™, NEXT, The Merchandise Mart International Antiques Fair™, The Artist Project™ and The Intuit Show of Folk and Outsider Art, Artropolis strives to offer a wide variety of art to the widest possible audience.
Art Chicago 2008, the centerpiece of Artropolis, brings together 180 of the world’s leading contemporary and modern art galleries, representing 56 international cities from 18 countries to showcase the work of more than 2,000 renowned artists, all carefully vetted by a selection committee of some of the most renowned names in the arts community.
NEXT, the newest component to Artropolis, is an invitational show of emerging dealers which will offer focused, cutting-edge works in contemporary art.
The Merchandise Mart International Antiques Fair, now in its 11th year, will once again host more than 125 dealers showcasing the best in high-quality antiques and fine art from around the world.
Now in its second year, The Artist Project will be greatly expanded in 2008, with more than 300 undiscovered, unrepresented artists displaying on The Mart’s 8th floor.
Finally, sponsored by and benefiting Intuit: the Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art, The Intuit Show will return to The Merchandise Mart’s 8th floor, and feature the sale of self-taught art, outsider art, art brut, ethnographic art, non-traditional folk art and visionary art.
Hours are April 25 and 26, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., April 27, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., and April 28, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission is $20 for all shows.
