On Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009, the Retro Design & Antiques Fair – winter edition – returns to Vancouver’s Commercial Drive, considered one of Canada’s hippest and most colorful neighborhoods. The 175 different vendors participating in this fun one-day fair are what make it unique to the city, and what guarantees the huge variety and sheer volume of antiques, memorabilia, and funky retro collectibles, all in one place at one time.
Expect a great selection of vintage and estate jewelry, mid-century Modernist decor, linens and textiles, old kitchen collectibles, retro glam accessories, collector dolls and toys, pop culture classics, boho and shabby chic design, country stuff, advertising and memorabilia, period lighting, decorative pottery and glass, sterling silver, and more.
Plus, you’ll get a chance to learn all about your vintage and collectible treasures. Ever wonder about the history of that funky old brooch you inherited, or the value of that brightly colored glass vase you snapped up at a garage sale? Drop-in appraisals will be available all day on a first-come, first-served basis. Items should be small enough to carry, with a maximum of three items per person allowed. Each verbal appraisal is $7, or three items for $20.
The appraisals will be conducted by Gale Pirie, an accredited member of the Canadian Personal Property Appraisers Group with many years of experience in valuing estate goods. She recently returned from a busy tour of western cities as an appraiser with the CBC’s Canadian Antiques Roadshow.
The Retro Design & Antiques Fair is held at the Croatian Cultural Centre, conveniently located at 3250 Commercial Drive at 16th Avenue in Vancouver, B.C. Show hours are 10 a.m.-3 p.m. General admission is $4 at the door, and parking is free. For more information, call 604-980-3159 or visit www.21cpromotions.com.
