DELAWARE, Ohio – Garth’s Auctions has announced the appointment of noted American furniture specialist Andrew Richmond to its cataloging staff. Richmond comes to Garth’s after three years with another eminent Ohio auction house, Cowan’s in Cincinnati, where he most recently had served as head of the Decorative Arts department. Richmond also has shared his expertise through articles written for such publications as The Magazine Antiques and American Furniture, the annual journal published by the Chipstone Foundation.
Richmond was born and raised in Ohio, where he attended Kenyon College in Gambier. After receiving his B.A. in History, he worked as a librarian for several years. His interest in American furniture led to his pursuing and earning an M.A. in Early American Culture from Winterthur Museum at the University of Delaware.
“Garth’s has been a pillar of the Midwestern antiques marketplace for over half a century, and I’m thrilled to be a part of the team,” Richmond said. “I very much look forward to helping the firm continue to bolster its international reputation … and I want to see the Midwestern market recognized for what it is – a great place to buy and sell exceptional Americana.”
Richmond joins Ellice Ronsheim and Susan Wise in Garth’s Catalog department. Ronsheim is degreed in American History and Decorative Arts from Ohio’s Antioch College. She came to Garth’s in August, 2005, after nearly 30 years with the Ohio Historical Society’s Curatorial department. Wise, who holds an Art History degree from Grinnell College in Iowa, has been with the department for nearly 20 years and lends not only consummate skill but also stability to the company’s cataloging process.
“We are fortunate for the opportunity to acquire someone with Andy’s passion and expertise,” said Jeff Jeffers, president of Garth’s. “In today’s dynamic auction industry, it’s great to grow our business as incrementally as we have, with the strong foothold 50 years gives us. The future in our part of the Midwest market feels strong and poised for tremendous development.” For more information about Garth’s Auctions, call 740-362-4771 or log on to www.garths.com.
