Early American, early January at Garth’s

DELAWARE, Ohio – The brisk American January auction season kicks off at Garth’s annual catalogued auction on Jan. 4 and 5, 2008.

Garth’s catalog will feature dual covers in a “flip” format; allowing the firm to promote the exceptional offerings of Early American Antiques on Friday and more than 450 lots of impressive ivory, rare porcelain and fine furniture featured in Saturday’s Asian, European and Modern Decorative Arts session.

pilgrim press cupboard.jpgEarly American offerings are highlighted by a rare and wonderful example of a Pilgrim Century Press (or court) cupboard; one of seven known “Tulip and Sunflower” cupboards attributed to the workshop of Peter Blin of Wethersfield (ca. 1640-1725). With an impressive provenance, including Charles Woolsey Lyon, Inc., Francis P. Garvan and Harold Lehman, the cupboard comes to Garth’s from a private collection, where it has been held for the last 32 years, estimated at $20,000 – $40,000.

The Saturday session is accentuated by beautiful Asian, Modern and Continental furniture and decorative items to including a George III Pianoforte; a George III desk and bookcase and a selection of Modern items including a Clarice Cliff “Bizzare” dinner set.
