Fine jewelry at Bonhams, April 22

NEW YORK CITY – Collectors and admirers of vintage estate jewelry are looking forward to the April 22 auction of fine jewelry at Bonham’s, preceded by previews in Bonhams’ showrooms in Los Angeles and San Francisco before coming to New York City where the preview and simulcast sale will take place in the auctioneer’s new Manhattan showroom slated to open earlier in the month.

Belle Epoque diamond tiara, circa 1905, est. $200,000-$300,000.

One highlight of the sale will be a rare emerald encrusted “mystery-set” maple leaf brooch, by Van Cleef & Arpels, estimated at $60,000-$80,000. This is a truly rare find as, due to the delicacy of emeralds, mystery-settings were typically reserved for harder gemstones such as sapphires and rubies.

Also highly anticipated, is the collection of Mildred Montigue Genevieve ‘Tweet’ Kimball.

‘Tweet’ Kimball was a well-known philanthropist, art patron, socialite (having entertained luminaries such as Princess Anne and Queen Elizabeth) and trailblazing cattlewoman.

Perhaps the most coveted piece in her collection is an exceptional Belle Epoque diamond tiara, circa 1905, estimated at $200,000-$300,000. The tiara’s old European-cut diamond scroll centers a bezel-set pear-shaped diamond weighing 7.26-carats, mounted in platinum and accompanied by a GIA certificate stating D color VVS2 clarity.

Previews begin in San Francisco on April 4-6, followed by a preview in Los Angeles from April 11-13.

Bonhams New York opens the sale’s preview on April 18, continuing daily until the auction at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22.
