King Auction reports this may be “the largest find of this kind of collectables to have ever been offered at auction in this area.” The huge, private collection carries everything from vintage autos and advertising to diverse selections of railroad memorabilia. A nod to the sale’s diversity: Bidders will even have their choice of two copper liquor stills.
Some of the many petroliana offerings include oil cans from Esso, Imperial, Valvoline, Texaco, Illinois, Sinclair, Gulf, Sears (full), Saphire, Artex and more. The petroliana category also includes many original porcelain advertising signs from the likes of Gulf, Esso, Texaco and Amoco.
Countertop product displays include a nickel change machine (insert a nickel and receive four pennies), a Bayer Aspirin 25-cent countertop machine, a 10-cent Eveready Flashlight battery display case, a 5-cent gum and mint dispenser with its key and a 5-cent Star Hershey candy dispenser among others.
Original railroad items of particular interest include a C&E railroad lantern with red globe, a stainless steel C&O Railway water can, a 41-inch by 62-inch Norfolk & Western Railway safety banner, many railroad signs and their choice of three actual cabooses, plus railroad inspection cars and other related vehicles.
Vintage car enthusiasts will want to keep an eye on the 1959 Willys CJ5 Jeep, the 1940 Ford 2-door Coupe with V-8 engine, as well as the 1965 and 1969 Corvette convertibles.
Outstanding toys include (but are not limited to) an early 1920s Buddy L concrete mixer, an original Dokey Adams Motor Grader, a Murray Pedal Car Speedway Pace Car 500 in phenomenal condition and a seldom-seen Minneapolis Moline Tot Pedal Tractor with front-end loader.
The entire auction catalog is now online at Proxibid.com. The Metrolina Tradeshow Expo is located at 7100 Statesville Rd., Charlotte, N.C. Those interested in inspecting the offerings before the sale can do so on Friday, Aug. 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The auction will commence at 10 a.m. Aug. 27 and Aug. 28.
