The bids are in and final and the June 1 closing of American Bottle Auctions’ 50th auction smashed world records and set a new high for the California auction house.

In one of the more surprising finishes to any auction up to date, bids were still flying in as a repaired Bryant’s Bitters bottle reached $36,000 and the Favorite Bitters, a real favorite with at least two bidders, went to $58,000. With the 12 percent commission, that’s $40,320 and $64,960 respectively. And that wasn’t all.

A projected $250,000 auction instead climbed to over $370,000, the highest single auction total for American Bottle Auctions in quite some time.

“We want to thank all the people that made this terrific auction possible,” American Bottle Auctions owner Jeff Wichman said. “With 308 lots and only four lots unsold, the catalog page had over 78,000 hits before the night was over. It’s apparent that bottle collecting is alive and well and we plan to continue selling more bottles, having more auctions and having more fun over the coming year.”
