LAMBERTVILLE, N.J. – A coffee table created by George Nakashima in 1977 sold for $144,000 at the Sollo Rago Modern Auction held Oct. 27-28. Prices include a buyer’s premium of 20 percent.
The “Minguren I” walnut coffee table by Nakashima (1905-1990) had a free-form top incorporating two rosewood butterfly keys, and was accompanied by an original drawing and sales receipt.

A galvanized steel sculpture made by Isamu Noguchi (1904-1988) in 1983 brought $90,000, and an untitled bronze and steel “Sonambient” sculpture made by Harry Bertoia (1915-1978) sold for $78,000.
A walnut wall cabinet with sculpted bi-fold doors and bronze loop panel backed with beige linen, circa 1962, which was a collaboration by Phillip Lloyd Powell and Paul Evans (1931-1987), realized $60,000. Evans’ steel patchwork sculpture, done in 1964 and made for Powell, soared to $144,000.
