Online auction has record sale

CLEVELAND – The Winter Fine Art & Antiques online auction by Aspire Auctions, Inc., exceeded the expectations, achieving a sell through rate of 93 percent. Aspire credits conservative estimates, low buyer’s premium and global marketing to the success of the sale.

The top three categories out of 15 were paintings, jewelry and sculpture; most items were offered without reserves.

An Art Deco sculpture by Ferdinand Preiss with an auction estimate of $8,000-$12,000, sold for $11,787.50 within the last four seconds of bidding.

An Edwardian platinum and diamond brooch exceeded the high estimate and sold for $7,820. An internally flawless 3.03 carat diamond sold for $24,725, and a 5.76 emerald cut diamond sold for $21,275.

Another interesting category was the European carved ivories. The top seller went for $1,035.

Silver sold well; a sterling silver teapot by Peter, Ann & William Bateman sold for $1,092 and a German silver bird automaton sold for $2,127.50. A hard-to-find set of four Theodore B. Starr sterling silver candlesticks achieved a sold price of $2,817.50. Surprising everyone was a service of Francis I sterling silver flatware that sold for $4,082.50.

All prices quoted above include the 15 percent buyer’s premium. For more information call 216-231-5515 or visit www.aspireauctions.com.
