Porcelli leaded lamp doubles estimate

FAIRFIELD, Maine – A contemporary. 20-inch, all-over bouquet leaded glass lamp designed and executed by glass artist Joseph Porcelli was a surprise performer at the latest Lamp & Glass Auction held June 23 at James D. Julia Auctions when it sold for $19,837, almost two times its presale estimate of $8,000 to $10,000.

The sale marks an important turn in collectors’ interests in contemporary leaded glass work, artist Porcelli said. Julia’s Lamp & Glass sale, which included an impressive offering of works from the Tiffany, Gallé, Stueben and Handel Studios, in addition to other important glass works, has become a important event in the annual auction season, attracting not only some of the finest works, but also the attention of  enthusiastic collectors and dealers in the field.

The artist, Joseph Porcelli, also a painter and author specializes in leaded glass lamp design, fabrication and restoration. He maintains a studio in Newtown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
