Extreme temperatures put antique glass at risk

Over the years, my mother has stored hundreds of pieces of carnival and other glass in her garage. It has been wrapped and protected from rain and such, however, I have wondered if the temperature changes from cold winter to hot summer has affected the items.

Thank you.

Note from Editors: According to author and glass expert Ellen Schroy (“Warman’s Depression Glass Identification and Value Guide,” 5th edition, Krause Books, 2009), and other experts, you don’t want to store antique glass in areas that are subject to temperature extremes – it can cause breakage.

If it’s possible, we recommend you find another storage solution. — Editors
