SANTA FE, N.M. — Auction in Santa Fe is hosting an event August 11-12 featuring 550 lots of Native American artifacts, as well as art and sculpture by contemporary and legendary masters.
Most notable offerings are from the Dr. Delwin and Karen Bokelman collection (Doylestown, Pa.) and the Kent Wintersteen collection (Olivet, S.D.).
Fine art highlights include nearly a dozen works by Birger Sandzen (1871-1954): six oils, one charcoal and several drypoints/prints will be featured, including one from Trinity Lutheran Church in Topeka, Kan.
Other artists offered include: Adams, Borein, Couse, Crowley, Dixon, Hogue, Hurley, Kloss, Koerner, Lumpkins, Rodriguez, Schleeter and dozens more.
More than 100 pieces from the Indian River Gallery of Las Vegas will also be sold. IRG was rated a “5-star gallery” by Dr. Gregory Schaaf, author of “The American Art Series.” Opened in 2006 and operating as one of the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, it offered museum quality antique and contemporary Native American art and artifacts until 2013.
Pottery from artists such as Maria Martinez, Margaret Tafoya, Sofia Medina, Grace Medicine Flower, Frog Woman (Joy Navasie), Lawrence Namoki, Sylvia Naha, Joseph Lonewolf, Steve and Yvonne Lucas and more are offered.
Weavings are represented by works from Bessie Little Bear, Cecelia Nez, Elsie Begay, Grace Teller, Lillian Joe, Sarah Tso, Shirley Joe and others.
