Old-time radio group plans October 2012 convention

… Hello again …
… Those thrilling days …
… Come on in the house …
… Lights out, everybody …
… And now let’s see what’s going on …
… You are there …

Those introductions told the audiences of the Golden Days of Radio that it was time for another audio treat – and filled many fond memories of adults and kids who today collect reminders of treasured shows.

Those reminders are not limited these days to collectible artifacts – though there are many. (One of the top prices came at a Hake’s Americana & Collectibles auction Feb. 3, 2011, described a prototype Sky King ring as “the most important prototype ring known in the hobby,” and it sold for $16,100, including a 15 percent buyer’s premium.)

Now, a new group has formed to savor the memories: Celebrating Audio Theater Old & New is in the midst of plans to launch a two-day event at the Ramada Plaza Hotel, 160 Frontage Road (off I-9), Newark, NJ 07114, Oct. 12-13, 2012. The event will feature live audio dramas on stage (some new scripts, some re-creations from Old Time Radio) as well as celebrity guests, informative panels and sales of popular-culture collectibles.

Current ticket prices are $20 per day for the daytime programming, $55 per evening for evening programming (including buffet dinner), or $140 for the full two-day package.
