FALLS CHURCH, Va. – Showcasing a cast of nationally known decorative and fine arts experts as speakers, the nonprofit Foundation for Appraisal Education is hosting a decorative arts seminar at Quinn’s Auction Gallery Sept. 6-7, 2012.
The program features a wide variety of subjects that would be of interest to generalists, experts and connoisseurs of decorative and fine art. Specialized sessions will cover such topics as: mid-century furniture, current trends in Asian art, the changing times of art pottery, valuation of prints and fine art; contemporary glass, netsukes, legalities of selling ivory and migratory birds, and folk art, just to name a few.
With the support and underwriting of Quinn’s Auction Galleries, the foundation will present a diverse roster of featured speakers including David Rago, Lark Mason, Suzanne Perrault, Ken Farmer, Dale Sorenson, Oscar Fitzgerald, Matt Quinn and others. Not only will attendees have the chance to meet with these nationally known experts, but also gain invaluable knowledge on subjects for which education is often difficult to find.
“Where else can you learn about the legalities of buying and selling ivory and feathers, while also seeing and handling one of the country’s foremost collections of netsukes?” asked Matt Quinn, VP of Communications and Marketing, Quinn’s Auction Galleries. “This seminar promises not only to be educational but also lively and fun.”
Evening receptions are being planned to provide an opportunity for attendees to meet and chat with speakers and others taking part in the seminar. The seminar registration fee is $375, with $200 of the fee qualifying as a tax-deductible contribution to the Foundation for Appraisal Education.
The nonprofit Foundation for Appraisal Education promotes the advancement of education pertaining to personal property appraising. The foundation offers educational grants for the purposes of appraisal education as well as scholarships to individuals for fine art and decorative art appraisal education. The organization’s overriding goal is to educate the public about fine and decorative art appraisals.
The Sept. 6-7 event will be preceded by a reception on the evening of Sept. 5. Only 100 seats are available so early registration is recommended. A block of hotel rooms is being held for out-of-town participants; accommodations are not included in the seminar registration cost.
You can get to Quinn’s Auction Galleries easily through major DC airports, and ground transportation to the Westin. Washington Reagan National Airport (DCA) is 6 miles, and Washington Dulles (IAD) is 15 miles from the hotel. Transportation will be provided from the hotel to the gallery each morning and evening.
