Red Wing auction offering 250+ pieces July 7

RED WING, Minn. – A signed Red Wing 10 gallon butterfly-decorated salt glaze water cooler is garnering attention. A “Holy Water” cooler and a coveted Potters Excursion jug are  as well, as they headline a special auction. The official members-only auction at the Red Wing Collectors Society Convention (RWCS), July 6-8 in Red Wing, Minnesota.

Fundraiser Kicks off RWCS Convention

The RWCS will celebrate its 40th Anniversary at this year’s convention. The event will unofficially begin on Wednesday, July 5. It begins with the RWCS Foundation’s “Wine-ing for Red Wing” fundraiser from 6-9 p.m. It will be held at the Pottery Museum of Red Wing, 240 Harrison Street, Red Wing, Minnesota. Admission for the fundraising event is $20. The event will feature food and beverages, and silent and live auctions.

The Convention officially kicks off the next day, July 6, with a welcome from the city’s mayor and a special 40th anniversary keynote address at 10:30 a.m. at the Minnesota State College Southeast campus, 308 Pioneer Rd., Red Wing. RWCS Historian Nancy Lambert has assembled nearly a dozen RWCS collectors representing the past 40 years who will share insights into their passion for collecting and fond memories as members of the Society. RWCS Charter Members are to enjoy a special 40th anniversary celebration.

Auction Features Diverse Offerings

A popular event is the RWCS auction. The sale features 250 pieces of Red Wing. It begins at 4:30 p.m. July 7 at the Red Wing National Guard Armory, 885 E 7th St., Red Wing. Visitors may sign up for membership during the convention. A preview of the items slated for auction will be available from 3-4:15 p.m. Catalogs are available at the Pottery Museum of Red Wing for $5.

Society embers will also have their lineup of usual events to enjoy during the convention, including street sales held at Red Wing’s Pottery Place, other stoneware and pottery auctions held on Tuesday and Wednesday, educational seminars and the official RWCS Show & Sale at the Red Wing National Guard Armory. The Show & Sale opens for members at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 8. It is free to the public from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
