Sir Winston Churchill vintage Montblanc fountain pen brings $24,400

A May 23 Bonham’s sale featuring more than 200 lots of rare and vintage writing instruments had a historical rarity take center stage. One of Sir Winston Churchill’s fountain pens, of the last of 53 produced, sold for a record $24,400. Churchill famously preferred Montblancs and used them to sign many documents of great importance. This handsome example, fashioned of 18 karat pink gold inlaid with tortoiseshell lacquer bands, with a captop ringed with 53 diamonds, was displayed in the London Imperial War Museum and was accompanied by provenance documents.

Jewelry designer Margret Craver’s Solar-Lunar Cosmos series in June 14 Massachusetts antique auction

Margret Craver was a self-taught modernist jeweler and metalsmith. She was introduced to metalsmithing at the University of Kansas in the late 1920s. In 1938 she traveled to Sweden to study with Baron Erik Fleming, silversmith to the King. Under his tutelage, Craver refined her craft and sharpened her skills. During the war Craver taught metalwork to veterans at Walter Reed Army Hospital. Her personal collection crosses the block June 14, 2011 at Skinner, Inc. Read More +

Little boasts highest grossing wine auction in firm’s history

More than 1,700 bidders registered for a March 18-19 Leland Little auction to purchase a Berlin (KPM) Painting on Porcelain Plaque for $7,250, a Philip & Kelvin LaVerne "Chan" Cocktail Table for $6,000 and Edouard Cortes’ oil on canvas, titled "The Pantheon," for $25,000. The fine wine session, which was held Friday March 18th at 6PM, was the highest grossing wine auction for Little to date. Top achievers include 11 bottles of 1969 Richebourg, which sold for $8,500.

Herter, Belter and Meissen: Three generations comprise 101-year-old Mississippi estate

The estate of the late Mrs. Flossie Stallworth, who accumulated many antique and beautiful items over the course of her 101 years, will be sold on-site March 5, 2011 in Quitman, Miss. A pair of Belter chairs is certain to wow the crowd – one being an armchair in the Spring Meyer pattern, the other a beautiful example in the Rosalie pattern. Two etageres are also expected to juice the crowd, one a rosewood Victorian bonnet-top piece by Thomas Brooks, the other a walnut Victorian etagere.

Singer’s ‘Snow In The City’ could top Jan. 29, 2011 fine art sale in Ohio

Several paintings by well known Ohio artist, Clyde Singer, are sure to warm up the bidding in Saturday’s fine art, furniture and decorative arts sale. How apropo that, "Snow In The City," dated 1954, a wonderful winter scene of a bustling city street, will cross the auction block just a week after the Ohio area was pummeled by record snow. "Snow In The City" is expected to sell for $8,000 – $12,000.
