Bidders prepare to battle it out ?for rare McCoy, Hull cookie jars

BEATRICE, Neb. – For two days in May, Beatrice Auction Service will disperse hundreds of desirable antiques and vintage collectibles to the highest bidder. Collecting categories include art pottery, vintage Native American collectibles, glassware, jewelry (both fine and costume), and more. The event will be held in the 4H Building at the Gage County Fairgrounds, Beatrice, Neb. Bidding will being at 10 a.m. May 21 and at Noon May 22. In-person and telephone bidding, plus online bidding are available for the sale. Online bidding services will be provided by ProxiBid.com.

Noteworthy art pottery lots include approximately 45 pieces of Roseville, 24 pieces of Weller and nearly as many pieces of Van Briggle. Red Wing, Hull, Belleek and other makers are also represented.  Patterns available include Ferrella, Fiesta, Bittersweet, Snowberries, Cosmos, Peony, Coppertone Frogs, Wild Rose, Warwick just to name a few.

About 30 cookie jars will be sold. Bidders will be interested in the rare McCoy Astronaut, the Shawnee Smiley Pig, Hull Little Red Riding Hood, and Ice Cream Elephant, Dalmatian and Humpty Dumpty, all by McCoy.

American Indian-related selections include several Native American and Southwest blankets and baskets, as well as approximately 30 pieces of pottery.

Collectible glassware lots include many Depression glass pieces, Fenton, Fostoria, carnival glass, custard glass, Jadeite, Cranberry Opalescent, and more. And nearly 100 paperweights and two dozen toothpick holders will be sold.

The jewelry and silver categories hold more than 200 high-quality lots, including (but not limited to) pieces by Miriam Haskell and Whiting and Davis, many Bakelite bangles, pins and necklaces. A 5-troy-ounce bar of .999 fine silver will also be sold.

Seating will be provided at the sale, and concessions will be available from the 4H Club. Beatrice Auction is a family-owned, full-service company that specializes in antiques and collectibles.
