Raleigh, N.C., in the heart of North Carolina is one of the South’s fastest growing cities. It is also known for its natural beauty, temperate climate, top-ranked universities, adjacent Research Triangle Park and easy access to beaches and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Another local attraction is one of the longest standing antique malls in the Carolinas— Gresham Lake Antique Mall. This year the mall will celebrate its 15th year of operation under the continuous ownership of Elizabeth Connell. The mall opened in October 1993 as a multi-dealer shop with 20 dealers. It occupied one storefront. In 1998 the mall expanded to a second storefront and grew to 38 dealers. In 2007 the mall expanded again into a third storefront creating a 55 dealer antique mall that is a must-see stop for collectors and visitors to the area.

During a decade of significant change in the antiques industry marked by online auctions and show declines, the mall attributes its success to the quality of its dealers. Mall Manager Ginger Sabol commented that dealers diligently restock their booths and keep pace with “what’s hot and what’s not” to offer merchandise that appeals to customers. “Dealers locate desirable merchandise and offer our customers competitive prices,” Sabol said. Customers in search of a broad range of antique treasures will not be disappointed. The mall dealers offer furniture, Victorian items, Depression glass, linens, dolls, primitives, kitchenware, vintage costume and fine jewelry, elegant American crystal, vintage clothing and accessories, sewing notions, books and collectibles. Looking for some holiday nostalgia? Gresham Lake is also recognized as a great source for vintage holiday collectibles for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

To celebrate its 15th anniversary, Gresham Lake Mall has planned a special event for customers during October. On October 18, nationally-known antiques book authors Barbara and Jim Mauzy will make a personal appearance at the mall. Authors of more than 40 books, Barbara and Jim will display and discuss antiques and sell and sign their books. The authors are widely recognized for their knowledge of kitchen collectibles, Bakelite, Pyrex, and Depression glass.

Fall colors across the state will make this an opportune time for a weekend trip to the area. The mall is open seven days a week. For more information, visit www.greshamlakeantiquemall.com.
