The ovoid-form bodies of this four-piece tea and coffee set is engraved with bamboo tree and landscape decoration. The set consists of a lidded coffee pot, a lidded tea pot, a sugar bowl with cover and a creamer, together with a matching rectangular tray (133.43 total troy ounces). Produced in the workshops of the Jesuit orphanages of T’ou-Sè-Wè and Zi-Ka-Wei near Shanghai, similar pieces were exhibited at the 1915 Pacific International Exhibition in San Francisco where they received considerable acclaim and recognition.
