NOKOMIS, Ill. — Motorcycles hogged the spotlight at a recent auction, including a 1948 Indian Chief Roadmaster that sold for $25,300. The lifetime collection of Don Fiedler auction held by Matthews Auctions May 1-3 in Cedar Point, Ill., included motorcycles, petroliana, toys, bicycles, and more. This Art Deco-styled Milwaukee Model No. 860 gas pump sold for $5,170.With a variety of items being sold, and excellent attendance, prices were strong and the auction surpassed initial estimates. In addition to the Roadmaster, other motorcycle prices included a 1949 Harley Davidson motorcycle that sold for $22,550; a 1948 Harley Davidson motorcycle, V-Twin Pan Head Motor that sold for $22,000; a 1965 Harley Davidson Electra Glide motorcycle that sold for $20,350; and a 1941 Indian Chief, V-Twin Engine that sold for $20,075. Featured petroliana items included a rare AFM Register Repair Shop (motorcycle) porcelain flange sign that sold for $10,725; an Art Deco-styled Milwaukee Model #860 Cash Recording Clockface Gas Pump that sold for $5,170; original Harley Davidson Genuine Motor Oil five-gallon rocker can that sold for $3,630; and a Coca-Cola “Fountain Service” SSP embossed sign that sold for $2,585. Featured toys included a rare Hubley “Pop Eye” Patrol Indian Motorcycle that sold for $2,310; a Hubley 4-cylinder Indian Motorcycle that sold for $1,870; Keystone Private Label Truck that sold for $1,760; Hubley 4-cylinder Indian Motorcycle, Cast Iron that sold for $1,760; and a Buddy “l” Wrecker, Press Steel, that sold for $1,540. Attendance for the auction was excellent with almost 400 bidders registered onsite over the course of the weekend. Bidders were present from all over including one from the Netherlands. There were also almost 250 internet bidders, including bidders from Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.
