‘Invisible Man’ poster sells for record-setting $80,500

“The Invisible Man” was anything but at the  5th Annual Hollywood Poster Auction held in New York City on Nov. 10, 2007.

The insert movie poster for the Universal horror classic, which stars Claude Rains, fetched $80,500 — a hefty sum that nearly matches the original film’s budget!

Other poster auction sales highlights include:

• $13,000 for a 14" x 36" poster for “Tarzan, the Ape Man” (1933)

• $6,900 for a 22" x 28" poster from  “Children of Divorce” (1927)

• $5,750 for a  22" x 28" poster from “Anna Karenina” (1935)

In all, the auction’s sales totaled $320,000.  Since 1991, auctions run by Morris Everett Jr. (The Last Moving Picture Company) with partners Marty Davis and John Ours, Jr. have raised more than $6 million, thanks to loyal consignors and buyers alike.

Future auction dates are March 15 and Sept. 27, 2008,  in conjunction with the Hollywood Collectors Show run by Ray and Sharon Courts at the Marriott Hotel, O’Hare Airport, Chicago.

The 17th Annual Vintage Poster Art auction will be held May 27 at Cinevent in Columbus, Ohio. For more information, visit www.hollywoodposterauction.com.
