According to legend, the first Valentine greeting was sent by St. Valentine himself. Vintage Valentines are popular with collectors, who enjoy visuals and whimsical themes. Displayed singly or framed in a montage, vintage Valentines add a touch of retro charm to any décor and are guaranteed to rekindle plenty of nostalgic memories. Read More +

For 24 years, the San Francisco Antiquarian Book Print and Paper Fair has drawn bibliophiles together to refine their collections. The fair was Feb. 4-5, 2012. The report from Fair exhibitors was positive. Rosemarie Rustico of San Francisco’s W C Antiques described the first day as “killer busy.” The second day was a bit easier (Super Bowl XLVI might have had something to do with that). Read More +

Feb. 7, 2012 is a big day for admirers of Charles Dickens. It’s the 200th anniversary of his birth in 1812. As a postcard subject, Dickens is a rewarding challenge. By the early 1900s, he was a national icon in Britain and appeared in many highly collectible sets. Read More +

Fortunately, not every tourist could afford to ship a mummy or a priceless artifact home. For those with greater scruples or less cash, postcards hit the racks in the early 1900s.

Klein. "Simple searches for 'C. Klein' produced more and more examples of astonishing output: flowers, birds, butterflies, fruit, and still lifes – all displaying her characteristic inventiveness." In this well-researched article on artist Catharina Klein we learn why her art reaches well beyond vintage postcards.

A century ago, George Washington's birthday was a red-letter date. An impressive number of postcards were made and sold to celebrate his life and his birthday — so many that they're still fairly easy to find.
