Antique perfume bottle auction breaks $500K in sales

The International Perfume Bottle Association’s annual auction once again surpassed all previous year’s results by grossing an astounding $522,120 on an 83 percent sell through rate. The April 29, 2011 auction featured more than 250 items in addition to powder boxes and novelty items. World’s largest private Coca-Cola art, memorabilia collection going up for sale

It is the biggest and the best privately held collection of Coca-Cola memorabilia in the world. There are one-of-a-kind posters, rare serving trays, bottles, antique delivery trucks, Santa icons and even the side of a barn. Altogether, there are some 80,000 items worth as much as $10 million. The Schmidt Museum of Coca-Cola Memorabilia in Elizabethtown, Ky., is divesting its vast collection that fills a museum and warehouse totaling 32,000 square feet.

Collectors get carried away with vintage lunch boxes

The 1950s-70s represented a time in American life that was decidedly simpler in terms of technology, television and society. It was also in these decades that lunch boxes saw their heyday. "It’s going back into your childhood," said Joe Soucy, the nation’s most successful vintage lunch box dealer. "Lunch boxes conjure up memories in your mind. A lot of times I’ve seen people go after what they had when they were a kid or they go after the ones that their mother wouldn’t buy them when they were a kid."
