New blog aims to help antiques dealers sell more, manage better

I’m a big fan of music, and I often find times where a good song lyric sums up a certain event or experience quite well. Today is no exception. When I heard the news that business writer and Antique Trader’s Behind the Gavel columnist Wayne Jordan was launching a new blog, — tailored to the business needs of antiques BusinessofAntiques-160x600and vintage dealers — the song “I get by with a little help from my friends,” by Lennon and McCarthy came to mind immediately.

It’s a competitive world, in so many ways. However, there are also a lot of places and opportunities for people with shared interests, goals, careers, adventures, opinions, to share ideas, inspiring one another, and challenge one another (hopefully) with the intention and outcome of bettering themselves.

If you’ve read any of Wayne’s columns in Antique Trader or at, or his book The Business of Antiques, you know Wayne is about helping others better themselves by bettering their business. His new blog assembles in one location the information and tools dealers need to sell more, manage better, and plan effectively. offers a resource dedicated to the specific needs of the antiques and vintage trade. Topics covered include marketing, merchandising, pricing, inventory control, financial management, and technology.

The numbers associated with our antiques and collectibles industry, as Wayne points out, is staggering. Annual revenue from the antiques and vintage trade currently exceeds $5 billion per year, generated primarily by small independent dealers. Annual growth of the industry over the past five years is 8.1%.

“Antiques and vintage dealers are passionate and knowledgeable about their hobbies and collections” says Jordan, “but many lack formal training in business operations. With no national trade group to provide operating benchmarks, dealers sometimes struggle to stay afloat. ResaleRetailing fills the business information gap in the antiques trade.”

If you’ve been in business since the dawn of time, or are a relative newcomer, it’s worth a few minutes of your time to check out There may be something there that helps you sell more or manage your business inventory even better.
