Q I believe this is a photo of an ad for John Deere tractors. I don’t know if it is a reproduction. The date on the left corner is 1890. Any information?
— L.K., Allensville, Pa.
A Your John Deere calendar is an advertisement for their Gazelle plough. They put out such calendars every year. I can’t tell from a photo if your calendar is a reproduction. If it is authentic, collectors could pay $500 or more. To learn more, check Web sites for collectors clubs and John Deere collectors.
Q I purchased what I believe is a carved, mahogany, African figure at a local yard sale. It is 9 inches high. How can I find information and the value?
— S.B., via e-mail
A From your photo you appear to have a Yoruba carving from Nigeria. Similar pieces sell at auction for $1,000 or more.
Q Can you give me any information about this table with the carved dog heads on the legs and value?
— E., via e-mail
A Your Victorian, marble-top parlor table is in the Victorian Renaissance Revival style, 1875. Similar pieces have sold for $2,000 or more at auction.
