1896 “Little Duke” generating early estate sale excitement

MIDDELTOWN, N.Y. — Estate Of Mind will host a three-estate sale May 11, offering a diverse selection of items or every discerning antique enthusiast.

Klotz 1924-2012 and another residential estate. The Schroder collection will include his 63 year accumulation of fine antique toys with a focus on cast iron trains including, horse drawn fire trucks, tin lithograph vehicles such as Lehmann, German, Marx Lindstrom and others. Schroeder was a Navy veteran from 1940 – 1946. He served on the USS Hornet with LT. Col. Doolittle and the USS Wasp and is a recipient of the Purple Heart and a Retired NY Police Officer. Klotz’s collection will include an array of Tiffany & Stained glass with many pieces crafted by Klotz himself including lamps and windows. His windows are housed in the Holocaust Museum, the Daniel Webster Home, and municipalities throughout New Jersey. Klotz was a holocaust survivor during WWII and a well-respected Orange Co. Deputy Sheriff for more than 15 years.

The third estate will include artwork, period furniture, silver, porcelain, Oriental rugs, stamps, sports memorabilia, musical instruments, firearms and more.  Among the painting headed to auction include prized pieces such as: A Willard Leroy Metcalf signed, dated & titled Verso c.1875, O/C Indiana Artist Leota W. Loop Winter on the Farm Inv. # 118,  Kansas Artist Roswell S. Hill O/Canvas Board Providence RI,(2) O/Paper Selma Gubin Floral Still Life, W/C Pastel Umbrellas, Russian/Greek Silver Repousse’ Icon c.1850 Signed MP, (5) Tempera Japanese Scroll Paintings Signed 19/20th c., (2) Pastel Dogs Signed Harold Walcott c.1920, and (3) J.J. Audubon Litho’s 1844.

Among the toy manufactures represented in the lots for this sale are, Lehmann, Guntherman, Marx, Buddy L , Keystone, Dent Cast Iron, Kenton, Arcade, and Hubley. In the selection of decorative art items set for sale there is a large pair of Sevres covered scenic vases, Tiffany Studios Lotus lamp, Chinese Carved Rock Crystal Elephant & Swans with Emerald & Ruby Gem Set Eyes 19th c., Chinese Carved Quartz/ Amethyst/ Bronze Figural Brush Pot with Frogs, Lotus & Conch Shells 18th c., Mandeville Red Ware Straight Side Preserve Jar 19th c. and one of the most touted items of the entire sale is a coin operated 1898 Mills 1 Cent “1 Cent ‘The Little Duke’ trade simulator.
