Antiques in April marks 10th anniversary, gaining buzz as important Michigan antique show

MONROE, Mich. – Monroe County Community College will host the 10th annual Antiques in April Show and Sale April 2-3.

antiques in april michigan antiques collectibles showAccording to Tom Ryder, campus and community events coordinator for MCCC, the show is fast becoming one of the best antique shows in the Midwest and features an unprecedented display of high-quality antiques and collectibles from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Typically, about 60 vendors from across the United States exhibit at the show, he said.

John Meeker, a specialist in antiques and furniture conservation, will exhibit at the show. Meeker has held many jobs and apprenticeships in the furniture conservation and restoration industry, including house rehabilitation, repairing antique collections and apprenticing under skilled French polishers with exclusive clientele. Meeker has taken several classes in his 30 years as a conservator to both advance his workmanship and gain specialized skills like wood carving and leather conservation. He now owns a small studio where he continues his work.

Antiques in April will take place in the Gerald Welch Health Education Building on the Main Campus, which is located at 1555 South Raisinville Road in Monroe. Show hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 2 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 3.

Parking is free, and admission is $3. Tickets are available in advance at the Cashier’s Office in the Warrick Student Services/Administration Building or the day of the event. The Cashier’s Office can be reached by calling 734-384-4272.
