See ‘zillions’ of pens, Feb. 14 in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES – The 22nd Annual Los Angeles International Pen Show is one of the world’s largest pen-themed events with more than 200 vendors from North and Latin America, Europe, South Africa, Israel, Japan, China, Australia and New Zealand. All will be on hand when the show opens in the Manhattan Beach Marriott Hotel, to sell, buy and trade “zillions” of vintage and new pens.

Dealers exhibit the latest collectibles as well as hard-to-find retired models. Choices run the gamut from enamel, wood, Asian maki-e, gold, titanium, chrome, silver, celluloid, acrylic and hard rubber (ebonite). Among the eras represented include Victorian; 1905-1915 Art Nouveau pens topped with gold or silver filigree, mother-of-pearl or gems; bold-color 1920s Art Deco; 1930s Art Moderne streamliners and Mid-Century Modern.

This year’s show will feature a free appraisal of items brought to the show as well as on-site repair. In addition to pens, exhibitors routinely feature fine writing paper, accessories, ephemera, pen books and pen magazines.

During the Feb. 14 event, one attendee will win an $895 Delta of Italy limited edition Amerigo Vespucci fountain pen, which honors the three-masted tall ship of Italy’s Marina Militare.
