Rare Buffalo Brewery advertising sign sells for $22,200

NEW YORK — iGavel Auctions associate seller from Sacremento, Calif., Witherell’s Art and Antiques, auction ended on May 18, 2010, achieving excellent results with 100 percent of its lots sold.

The Charlotte and Don Smith collection of Ruhstaller and Buffalo Beer advertising is the most extensive of its kind. It represents a number of one of a kind items including an important die-cut calendar of an Indian Maiden and large factory scene of the brewery. The comprehensive tray collection comprises 36 versions along with nine tip trays. All prices realized include buyer’s premium.

The top lot in this auction was the Buffalo Brewing sign, Golden Buffalo. This lot had 18 bids, and sold for $22,200. The Buffalo Brewing calendar, Indian Maiden Riding Buffalo Back, had 12 bids, and sold for $18,000.

A rare reverse glass sign and stained glass window commissioned for the tap room of the brewery sold for nearly $17,000 and had 22 bids.
