I had the opportunity to nab some time at an estate auction this morning. Nothing really caught my eye that said “Take me home,” but I always enjoy spending time at auctions … you just never know what’s going to happen.
Today was one of those days.
When this set of spatterware bowls (photo courtesy Liebe Auction Service) came up on the block, several bidders in the standing-room-only crowd dove right in. The room seemed to erupt with bids coming from every-which-way.
I believe the bidding started at just $5, but within a couple of minutes, the bowls were sold, with the final gavel coming down at $102.50!
Now THAT was fun. I just love the fact that at an auction, if you want something bad enough – and your bank account can support that want – it’s yours.
