Nadeau’s records 958 antiques auction bidders, sells Howard silver tea service for $11,000

WINDSOR, Conn. – Nadeau’s Annual New Year’s Day auction was highly successful across the board, this sale was more diversified than ever. It was one of their largest auctions ever with 690 lots. There were a total of 958 registered bidders and 2,784 left, phone and online bids. It was a standing room only event with all seats taken.

A good assortment of estate jewelry and many of the coveted lots brought strong prices, including a Victorian 14 karat gold and onyx mourning medallion, $2,990; a 18 karat Turkish gold chain with enameling, $3,738; a Tiffany and Company 14 karat gold and silver evening bag, $2,645 and a Monte Blanc 18 karat gold pen which sold for $2,070. A Chanel black quilted leather purse sold for $2,185, a Chanel ladies black quilted purse brought $1,955, a Chanel mini chain handle purse sold for $1,265 and a Chanel shoulder bag sold for $1,495.

Some of the top lots throughout the sale include:

  • a Attilio Pratella (1856 – 1949) “Napoli” oil sold for $18,400,
  • a Joan Miro (1893-1983) “Ouvrage Du Vent” oil (1962) sold for $2,875,
  • Mathurin Moreau‘s (1822 – 1912) “Psyche” bronze sold for $7,762,
  • a six-piece Sterling silver tea and coffee set sold for $6,900,
  • a Howard, eight piece sterling silver tea and coffee service sold for $11,040.00,
  • a Continental silver candelabra made into a table lamp sold for $3,450.00,
  • a Tiffany “Hampton” sterling silver flatware set sold for $11,212,
  • a Sterling silver wine cooler with vine and grape motif sold for $4,025.00,
  • two nautical diaries of Charles G. C. Plummer sold for $6,325,
  • a brass telescope on brass tripod sold for $4,140,
  • a pair of bronze silvered urns sold for $6,325, and
  • an Agra Oriental carpet sold for $9,775.

Among the fine glass and decorative arts offered include a Tiffany Favrille Studios vase, which sold for $6,900, a Philip and Kevin Laverne (1908 – 1988) low table selling for $7,475.00 and dining table, which brought $16,10. A set of three stained and leaded windows sold for $5,462, a Louis Vuitton file trunk brought $14,950, a Daguerreotype of a fireman in dress hat sold for $2,760, a Lalique “Deux Sirenes” round covered box sold for $2,415 and a Black Forest carved walnut music seat sold for $9,200.

A Lladro Don Quixote and Sancho Panza brought $2,070, an Oriental bronze incense with pierced cover sold for $3,450, and an Aesthetic movement inlaid bed, attributed to Herter Brothers sold for $4,600. A set of eight Margolis Federal style dining chairs sold for $4,370 and a set of six Margolis Federal style dining chairs sold for $5,175.

“We were very pleased with the turnout and happy with the results of the sale overall,” Heather Nadeau, vice president had reported on the success of the auction. “It feels as if the market is coming back and we are very excited for this upcoming year”

Nadeau’s has two important auctions being held in the Spring, the first being their annual Asian Auction which will take place mid March and their Important Annual Spring Antiques and Fine Art Auction.
