DALLAS – J. Garrett Auctioneers will be offering the estate collection of late Dallas socialite Bertha Ahlschlager. This important auction will take place on Saturday, April 21, beginning at 11 a.m. and Sunday, April 22 at 1 p.m. Central Time.
The late Mrs. Ahlschlager, was well known in Dallas for her exquisite taste and penchant for all things French. Her Highland Park mansion was detailed in classic French architecture and design and reflected her love of Paris. Ahlschlager also owned an antique store in Highland Park Village in the 1980s known as “Pappillion” and her home was featured in Texas Homes and other publications and was named as a Heritage Home in the state of Texas and Dallas collectors and connoisseurs have long awaited this important auction event.
Highlights of the April 21-22 auction offerings include a fine group of European oil paintings attributed to Henry Mathy, John P. Morelle, William Hugo Rupprecht, G.T. Margeson, Luxe Versluys, Lucian Simonnet and others.
In the fine French furniture category is a Linke quality oval marble topped center table, a transitional commode, a signed Paul Sormani commode and a kingwood commode signed Tiarraz.
Additional important items include a 19th century French inlaid and bronze mounted bed, a large exotic walnut and bronze mounted bedroom suite, an unusual dore bronze glass-topped kidney side table, two very nice bronze mounted side tables, a Louis XVI dessert table and other important and desirable items.
Original sculptures include two French marble statues of classical ladies, one by M. Moreau and one by A. Carrier. Bronzes by French and Russian sculptors E.A. Lanceray, C.E. Dallin and L. Gregorie are also offered.
A large group of Continental porcelains include a palace-size cobalt Sevres vase, Parian figure by A. Moreau, palace size pair of Dresden capped urns, Royal Vienna urns, an oval KPM plaque, “Triumphzug de Aurora, Henri Liemiradzki,” signed “R. Wehsener, Dresden,” Royal Crown Derby dessert service, Dresden and Minton plates, fine pair of Cobalt and dore bronze urns, plus much more.
More than 100 pieces of estate jewelry offered include an approximately 10.25 carat diamond solitaire in platinum mount (estimate $90,000-$120,000), fine designer pieces including items by David Webb, Kurt Wayne, Henry Dunay, Maria B., Tiffany, and others, plus antique pieces including diamond brooches, a ladies Rolex Presidential watch, Art Deco pieces, fine gold bracelets and chains, earrings, vintage wristwatches, gold pocket watches and more.
Also, hundreds of French and Continental accessories are offered, including French bronze clocks, French objects de virtue, malachite and dore bronze candlelabra, malachite clock, malachite egg in the manner of Faberge, French Tantalus set, French liqueur bottles, bronze centerpieces, overlay crystal, large porcelain figural lamps, pair of Sevres lamps, Faience palace vase, ivory fans, fine terra cotta sculptures, a dore bronze French table lamp and other desirable objects.
Also offered is a collection of Chinese carved ivory, including a 66-inch carved ivory tusk, a very large pair of Emperor and Empress, massive pair of ivory phoenix birds, polychromed ivory pieces and intricate ivory figural groupings.
