LITCHFIELD, Conn. – Litchfield County Auctions has announced its Annual Holiday Jewelry & Couture Auction, together with books, historic documents and coins, which will take place online from Nov. 16 at igavelauctions.com, through Wednesday, Nov. 30.
Highlights in the books and documents sale include an autograph letter from Queen Victoria written to Amelie, Queen of Louis Philippe of France, written three weeks after her accession to the throne and within a month of her uncle William IV’s death in June 1837. It is written in French on mourning stationery with an embossed VR seal in the upper corner.

In addition, another feature item is an unusual illuminated manuscript on vellum in memory of Walter P. Chrysler, circa 1940. The manuscript is one of only four to exist and was made for each of Chrysler’s four children following his death in 1940.
Other highlights include an engraved map of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Quebec by Major Holland, London, Robt. Sayer and John Bennett, 1776; John Steinbeck “Grapes of Wrath,” 1939 first edition with dust jacket; and two rare French 18th century bindings on Baskerville classics – possibly bound for French royalty.
Coins in the sale include a group of three Dutch 24-karat gold coins; an 1862 Abraham Lincoln U.S. Mint struck bronze Indian peace medal; an 1871 Ulysses S. Grant bronze peace medal; and a South Korea, Seoul Summer Olympics, 1/2 ounce gold proof coin.
This sale will also include fine and estate jewelry items, featuring a Vacheron and Constantin 18 karat gold enamel and pearl ladies pocket watch; an Erte “A” diamond, yellow gold and black enamel pin; two Cartier gentleman’s steel wrist watches; a vintage platinum diamond engagement ring and eternity band; a Georg Jensen sterling silver cuff bracelet; in addition to many other necklaces, pendants, bracelets, earrings, rings, cuff links, vintage costume jewelry and objects including a silver, diamond, coral, and green enamel compact and an antique gold plated ladies lorgnette.
The couture and vintage clothing portion of the sale features vintage designer clothing by names such as: Elizabeth Arden, Armani, Brooks Brothers, Dana Buchman, Burberry, Chanel, Coach, Mark Cross, Delman, Chritian Dior, Escada, Ferragamo, Galanos, Rudi Gemreich, Givenchy, Gucci, Donna Karen, Lanvin, Judith Leiber, Karl Lagerfeld, Longchamp, Magli, Mary McFadden, Norman Norell, Bruce Oldfield, Oscar de la Renta, Searle, Valentino, Bottega Venetta, Versace, Louis Vuitton, YSL and more.
Highlights in the couture sale include two vintage wool coats by Christian Dior and Boutique Valentino New York/Rome; a vintage pink taffeta large puff sleeve evening gown by Oscar de la Renta; a vintage 100 percent black silk short-sleeve dress by “Givenchy” Nouvelle Boutique; Judith Leiber belts; a 1920s beaded headpiece; several pairs of 1920s Chanel Brevete S.G.D.G. gloves, one pair in a moire silk with puff sleeve; Hermes scarves; bags and luggage, and a grouping of men’s items including vintage derby, fedora and top hats, tuxedos, and vintage men’s scarves and accessories.
There will be a live auction preview at the Litchfield County Auctions’ gallery located at 425 Bantam Road, Litchfield, Conn. At the same time as the auction viewing, LCA will also host an estates tag sale, featuring other items from these same estates and collections.
