Improved Stereoscope tintype

Improved Stereoscope tintype

Quarter-plate Mascher’s Improved Stereoscope tintype of a man circa 1856. This case came with a pair of lenses inside the front cover that flipped up. Looking through the pair of lenses gave the two photographs a three dimensional appearance. These images are not easily encountered in traditional venues such as shops, antique shows, and flea markets. They may, however, be found at ephemera shows, at auction, or once in a while online. These cases were used for daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, and tintypes.
