F.H. Rhead Tile sells for $637,500

Rago Arts of Lambertville, N.J.,  had the honor of selling this Frederick Hurten Rhead, large four-part tile panel with peacock (a unique piece), University City, Mo., 1910. Signed “Frederick H. Rhead, U.C. 1910,” the tile measures 20 3/4 inches square. The piece was originally estimated to earn $35,000 to $45,000. F.H. Rhead designed Fiesta wares for Homer Laughlin Co. and was the nephew of graphic designer Louis J. Rhead.

Provenance: A personal gift from Rhead to friend and Weller Pottery colleague Levi Burgess, for his Zanesville, Ohio, residence.
