6 intriguing lots to watch during Dec. 2 auction

With your sights set on an item or items that 'speak' to you, there is undoubtedly a thrill that courses through the body when bidding begins and you are vying to become the new steward of a historic object. Regardless of the depth of historic value an item holds, it's character truths lie within the lives and events surrounding it.

Pictured below are six lots in Woody Auction's Dec. 2 auction that 'speak' to me. The auction features the second part of the JF (Fred) Zumthurn and Ida Parrott Collection. The auction will be held at Woody Auction's gallery in Douglass, Kansas. In addition, phone and absentee bidding is accepted, and LiveAuctioneers will facilitate internet bidding.

Pair of Pickle Castors

Pickled Prizes

Pair of pickle castors, each measuring 12 1/2 inches, one with a cranberry coinspot art glass insert bearing an enamel floral decor, and the other a blue coinspot art glass insert with an enamel floral decor. Both castors sit atop matching Tufts silver-plate frames with tongs that match. The pair are a single lot carrying a presale estimate of $800 to $1,600.

Medallions featuring leaders of the Christian church and religious scenes are embossed on an antique silver communion chalice in the Woody Auction Dec. 2 sale. It measures 10 3/4 inches and carries an estimate of $600 to $1,200.

An antique figural silver-plate napkin ring holder by Simpson, Hall & Miller, featuring three owls, is heading into the auction with an estimate of $150 to $400. It is one of several antique napkin holders in this auction.

Enchanting hinged "Tobacco" box by Wavecrest, egg crate mold, featuring white and powder blue segmented sections, boasting a floral design with gold enamel highlights, measuring 4 1/2 by 5 inches, with an estimate of $250 to $600.
