The historically important pair of Levi blue denim overalls with copper riveted XX waist, date from 1897. The Amoskeag Mill in Manchester, New Hampshire created the cotton used to make the pair of Levi denim overalls. The overalls feature four pockets with two in the front, a watch/coin pocket inside of the front right pocket and a single back pocket. Additional features include a waist cinching buckle on the back of the waist band, button fly and suspender buttons.

These historically important Levi Strauss & Co. waist overalls were ordered by Solomon Warner (1811-1899) and per family history they were worn very few times – if at all. It's possible this pair is the only pair from the 19th century in this condition.

In 1856, Mr. Warner opened a dry goods store on Main Street in Tucson, Arizona. During the Civil War, he refused to take an oath of loyalty to the Confederacy and headed to Santa Cruz, Mexico, where he stayed until after the war. In 1875 he built, owned and operated a flouring mill along with operating his dry goods store in Tuscon. The movie "Arizona" from 1940 features portrayal of Solomon Warner.

Additional Highlights

Some of the other historical items will include a San Francisco earthquake presentation pitcher and 12 tumblers, being of leather with copper lining and having Gorham sterling silver decorative rims, a Civil War autograph album having 143 signatures including such notables as Boston Corbett (the soldier who shot John Wilkes Booth), Ulysses S. Grant, Philip Sheridan, among other notables.

The Daniel Buck Auction Gallery is located at 501 Lisbon Street, Lisbon Falls, Maine.
