Reward offered for return of stolen Confederate currency

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Chic Antiques of Columbia, South Carolina, reports the theft of a full, uncut sheet of South Carolina Confederate fractional notes. Individual notes comprising the sheet of Confederate currency, which have been slash-cut cancelled through almost the entire second column, have face values of 5 cents to 75 cents.

The stolen Confederate currency, in the form of an uncut sheet of 1863 Confederate fractional notes, signed by Johnson, is valued at $1,500 to $2,000. Chic Antiques is offering a reward for information leading to the recovery of the notes and the prosecution of the perpetrator of the theft.
