The bright red 195 Schwinn DX Cruiser from the beloved 1985 film Pee-wee’s Big Adventure made headlines earlier this year when it sold for $125,000 at Van Eaton Galleries. Where is it now? Where else but the Alamo?

In a press release on July 18, the Alamo confirmed that it has acquired the screen-used stunt bike. They intend to display it in the Mays Family Legacy Gallery at the Alamo Visitor Center and Museum, which will open in Fall 2027. This new gallery will be “a space where visitors can delve into the intricate melding of history and pop culture associated with the Alamo,” according to a statement released in 2023. Instead of the typical “sword or gun or precious document” that Kolby Lanham, Senior Researcher and Historian at the Alamo, alluded to in an interview with CBS, the gallery will feature toys, memorabilia, film clips, and music.

But fans of Pee-wee’s Big Adventure won’t have to wait two years to see the bike in its new location. The Alamo will display it to the public later this year and host a screening of the movie to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

And in case anyone is wondering: Once the new museum is completed, the Alamo will finally have a basement.
